It all started when…
ROOTS Coalition took shape in fall 2017 when a Wilmington, MA resident asked, via a community Facebook post, if others in the community would like to get together and share thoughts, ideas and emotions around the opioid addiction problem across the country. Meeting attendees had been concerned about the issue of substance abuse for some time, and they began brainstorming ways the community could address the issue and ways families could help prevent abuse as well as support loved ones.
At that first meeting the seed was planted knowing that working together we would be stronger. This would involve a deep rooted community base as well as an invaluable connection with local governments, schools, sports associations and local community groups to work.
On March 22, 2018, ROOTS Coalition (Raising Our Own To be Strong) was officially formed by a community, with a community and for a community. Today, ROOTS Coalition moves forward with four community members at the helm striving to prevent substance misuse.
